If you are going to bring up FIM comics, I can bring up g1 comics.
Examples from G1 comic:
Twinkle eyed ponies were slaves to wizard and went completely blind when mining in a dark cave. They had gems inserted into their eyes to help them see. Applejack killed this Wizard by kicking him off a cliff.
The Dream valley clan is ruled by a Queen that is utterly ruthless. She stones her enemies, turns them into statues or completely erases them from existence.
“And the Winner Is” — “The Ticket Master”, etc.
It’s Toei. Animation. What do you expect?

No, it happens in the comics. However nothing close to that ever happens again. And I am amazed it ever did in the first place. I’d still say G1 utterly destroys G4 when it comes to being dark, comics included.
Bringing back the super badass boss of G1 and putting him in the G4 finale was genius. I hope they use more stuff from G1.
I’d like to see one moment in G4 where the ponies travel across an ocean, lure a bunch of trolls out of their castle, and then cause the entire species to magically dissolve into nothingness.
I’d be careful when opening the gen-bashing door. G1 has a lot of bullets in its belt.

Except you haven’t seen it in the FIM cartoon either.. ;) The closest thing G1 had to this was probably the Movie, where witch’s daughter kept eating bats, (earth)worms and flies all the time :) (alive, of course) and her mother squished the cockroach. But not in front of ponies..
The one who voiced G3 Pinkie just let everyone else in that Gen down.
That is true, but some of them were pretty cute voiced (like Wind Whistler, Gusty, Fizzy, Baby Moondancer, Posey and so on). At least some of them were better than many voices in G3 (it’s paradox that many VA in G3 are the same ones as in FIM)
At least half of the voice actors were actually pretty good, especially in MLP Tales.
Nuff said.
