Not a fan of the coronation ones.

In any other cartoon the animators would have just reused the same dresses.

If ponies are usually naked, what if getting dressed up really fancy is like, the same thing as when humans get naked?

Twilights coronation dress is…weird, in a weird way too.  
AJs dress gala goes well with her hat, that coronation dress is too blue.

Boy, some bloke points out a trend and the rest of you talk about dresses.

Yeah the dresses may be getting worse, but Rarity had months of advanced notice for the Gala dresses, and maybe 24 hours notice for their bridesmaid dresses, and if this is next day she only had 12 or so hours for the coronation dresses.

I find Rainbow’s “dress” at the Coronation the weirdest.

For Twilight and Applejack, the Gala dresses are undeniably the best. The wedding dresses are definitely the worst of the 3.

You could say the dresses have gotten worse, but the screen time for each instance has lessened too.
 
That first line got a whole 2 episodes of attention, of course they were great.

Looking at the wedding dresses, I remembered an episode of Frasier where they concluded that brides maids wear hideous outfits to make the bride look that much better. I think it’s those headbeads they wear coupled with the monocolor skirts (except Rainbow’s, of course). There’s not as much personality there.
 
Gala dresses are my favorite with coronation running second.

And of all of them I prefer the Wedding and Coronation. The Gala episode isn’t exactly a favorite of mine. The irony is that my reason for not liking it as much is because it didn’t have that “grand” feel to it after a season of hype. Ho’s that ironic? The episode’s morale seemed to be “don’t get too excited about something or else you’ll likely end up disappointed” which ended up being my reaction. Sure I look more fondly on it in hindsight, but at least A Canterlot Wedding and Magical Mystery Cure actually had “grand” feelings to them (even if I do agree that MMC should have been a two parter, but still for a 21 min. episode it was pretty good).

Watch Season 4 be the most full blown ceremony known to ponykind.

Lemme see which dresses they each wore that I like the most here.
 
Fluttershy: The Wedding. I liked the Pink, which is a welcome change to the green in her other two dresses.  
Rarity: Coronation. That hat is amazing.  
Rainbow Dash: Toss up between the Gala and the Coronation. The Gala dress showed off her natural Rainbowness moreso than the Wedding but the Coronation is unique in a cool way, just like her.  
Applejack: Definitely the Gala dress. It emphasizes her rustic charm moreso than the others, and the Coronation dress for her is way to tacky.  
Pinkie Pie: Coronation. I like the Gala dress, but it’s to over the top, even for her. The Coronation dress is just right.  
Twilight Sparkle: Gala. I do not like the color of her dress for the Wedding and her Coronation dress looks to much like a Bathrobe, in my opinion.

Why do Pinkie and Twilight always get the best dresses?
 
Good on Rainbow for choosing something less brash for the most important day in her friend’s life, though.
