well Galactus wants to eat planets so im not sure lol with Discord i would argue he was neither good nor evil back in season 4, he’s actually more good now than he was then think anti-hero, some just see him as worse because he did something worse than he did back then which leads to intent over actions let me explain, basically whenever discord was trying to teach twilight say back in season 4 it wasn’t actually really to help her and more of just because he likes messing with ponies. Despite his actions arguably can be seen as worse now, he ironically was actually trying to help twilight, infact he ultimately was concerned for the greater good of his friends to make sure they were effective rulers of equestria.
He’s basically Galactus. An embodiment of nature. Neither good nor evil, just a part of life
Discord was NEVER evil…..He was an Trickster,yes but he was not an real Villain,in my Eyes
I agree with the episode and plot twist being flawed i just dont agree with Discord being evil or his intentions being seen as evil.

Nor did I claim he did.
No, I’m sure he would’ve just waited for the three powerful villains obsessed with conquest and revenge to kill the few people he actually cares about, then hunt him down while he has no magic.
The crux of the issue is that Discord’s “redemptive actions” are only intended to benefit himself and the handful of people he already cared about, not the citizens of Equestria he endangered or the villains he intended to exploit and dispose of. As I said, he’s not making up for his evil actions and intentions. He’s making up for the fact that they hurt the “wrong” people.
Given the fact that he essentially tried to murder them first, would this make the villains actions justified? It doesn’t take a “former” villain to realise that the villains who want to conquer Equestria that he assembled for the purpose of making them attempt to conquer Equestria would attempt to conquer Equestria at the first opportunity they got. If Discord actually recognised how despicable his plan was he wouldn’t have suggested turning them to stone, but since he only cares about how he and his friends are effected, he obviously has no problem condemning them as he always intended to.
Discord didn’t make up for his evil plan, he put it back on the rails. The fact that everyone went along with it just shows that they’re just as ethically myopic as Discord was and, more Doyalistically, that Discord being this evil was unintentional and the result of poor writing. This is what makes it such a crippling flaw in the episode.
Given Discord planned to be a safety net its clear he didn’t intend for his plan to put his friends and by extension all of equestria in true grave danger. If it was just to save his own skin he wouldn’t have for 1 stayed behind to listen to the villains plan, he wouldn’t have gone to canterlot to warn the others of the incoming threat, he yells to twilight to FLY! out of there in stays behind to help the others hold up the boulder so twi can escape. He then while powerless and being shown fearful at times founds enough bravery to create a plan to free the prisoners using his O&O archery training to deflect a beam that could have possibly killed him and can be seen facing the villains only being able to throw rocks so the mane 5 and spike can save EQ…once again Save EQ and keep fluttershy safe!! Totally only saving his own skin😐. Also the lack of empathy discord has towards the villains is the same lack of empathy the mane 6, starlight, the princesses etc have towards beings who will try to murder them.

As I believe we’ve discussed before, if Discord’s escape plan hadn’t (against all logic) worked he would’ve been just as dead as everyone else. The idea that he’s somehow redeeming himself by staying behind is undermined by the fact that the ones he’s throwing rocks at are also the intended victims of his plan. Discord does not seem to regret carrying out his vile plan, his only regret is that it blew up in his face and hurt the few people he actually cares about.
It wasn’t to save his own skin. “Just save equestria and keep fluttershy” if u dont like discord thats fine but lesson to reason at least. Throwing rocks to protect yur friends because u literally cant do anything else to face these threats but doing it anyways at the possible cost of yur life is definitely a redemptive action.

Hardly what I’d call meaningful consequences considering they’re all undone by the end of the episode and in any case, the result of the villains’ actions. Saving his own skin and sticking around to throw rocks at people he saw fit to use as disposable pawns can hardly be called redemptive actions either.
Discord did actually face consequences he lose his powers, had to walk all the way back to the castle which injured him a lot, had his friends especially fluttershy upset with him and was dragged around on a chain by the villains he wasn’t forgiven until he realized and felt the guilt of how badly he messed up and swore to make it to them putting his life in danger to start equestria’s counterattack by making a plan to get the ponies free, that involved purposefully pissing off a powerful tirek who could destroy him, staying behind to help hold off the villains only being able to throw rocks but still putting himself in harms way so they can save EQ. “JUST SAVE EQUESTRIA AND KEEP FLUTTERSHY SAFE!”-Discord
This!
That’s what I love about MLP, it carries an optimistic view with realistic displays of justice and order.
@Loveslave of Nightmare Moon
@Manerg
Thank you! I think you’re the first person I’ve seen actually acknowledge that.
@CORDZ2000
You’ll notice that neither of the first two points actually contributed to their defeat, since the Mane Six escaped before they could finish arguing. Further, given the fact that Celestia explicitly stated that she intended to give them “a punishment worthy of all [they’ve] done”, I strongly doubt that anything Chrysalis said would’ve mattered at that point.

I can’t be the only one that finds the idea that a character not knowing that they’re fictional and cannot win as long as they oppose the protagonists is a form of incompetence absolutely absurd, can I? In any case, personally infiltrating the capital city of a hostile power disguised as royalty and dedicating oneself to taking revenge upon a vastly stronger force are hardly the acts of a coward. Also…
No, they didn’t. This exact point is brought up in the episode.
@Manerg
Which neither King Sombra or the Storm King had received.

They almost certainly still would’ve been turned to stone (see above).
On the contrary, they’re the only villains that were established to be redeemable while they were villains. If any villains in this show needed a happy ending, it was those three.
Whereas in reality, fans complained that they never got the chance to be redeemed and that Discord (who was every bit as responsible for their actions as they were) didn’t face any form of genuine punishment at all. I would know since, as you’ve no doubt surmised, I’m one of those fans. In any case, I see no reason why an episode redeeming them couldn’t be well written and the “redeeming every villain” complaint, while still not entirely true (see above), wouldn’t be an issue if they’d simply steered clear of some of the less deserved redemptions.
there are storylines were villains win u know, but the reason i will say villains often lose metaness of “Good Guys win aside” is because there often far more arrogant than the heroes. Which does make sense if u think about it…u have to be pretty egocentric to try to take over the world lol.
Well to be fair, friendship is kind of a conceptual element. Like Twilight said, “those who will carry on our message when we are gone”. Even if Twilight did lose, the concept would still carry on in others. Even in real life, events like the American revolution stem from the idea of “carrying on”
That’s why Friendship is so powerful. If you want to look at the other side of the spectrum, look at Darkseid, who ALSO bears Conceptual power, and he STILL gets his ass kicked by those who believe in hope and unity
Plus if discord would have been able to be the safety net he was planning to, the plan to build twilights confidence would have worked perfectly and they would have lose faster lol still saying friendship is weakness afterwards.
Any villain is dumb if they think they’re going to win. Any kind of fictional shit has become too fucking predictable because the good guys always win. What is the point of watching the shit if you know that in the end, the hero is going to beat the shit out of the villain? Even if Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow were able to kill all the princesses and Twilight, and destroy any kind of friendship magic, they would still lose, whether Twilight somehow gets revived and becomes all-powerful, or if Diamond Tiara showed up to save the day. Even if they had friendship they weren’t going to win. The whole battle was fixed from the start.
Welp Chrysalis and her allies may have been smart to finally discover thier friendship is magic and managed sneak arou5them with their teamwork.
They were dumb enough to think they were gonna finally win, they forgotten about the students and the outside of Equestria had friendship in them too and secondly the Mane 6 are friends and villains weren’t friends, they needed more than teamwork to defeat them and they didn’t have friendship to have Twilight and her friends finally defeated.
