Description
Zoomed-out version of this drawing:
Nightlight is a super-powerful unicorn, but she also has special needs. She has Unicorn Syndrome, a condition similar to Asperger’s Syndrome. When Nightlight feels distressed by her environment, she might melt down. Her meltdown may come with a sudden burst of power. Nightlight feels a monster inside that terrifies even her.
When her friend Sparklefire tried to give her a surprise party, Sparklefire did just about everything wrong. Sparklefire can be grossly insensitive without realizing it. First – Nightlight doesn’t like surprise parties. She loves being able to plan it all out. Second – Sparklefire’s choice of party was a perfect recipe for sensory overload. Third – Nightlight tried to back out of the party, but Sparklefire kept following her around. Sparklefire kept popping up like a cartoon character, and Nightlight could find no way to avoid her.
Finally, Nightlight exploded in anger and fear. Now that she felt cornered, she was determined to destroy the environment causing her the distress. Sparklefire also made the mistake of having the party in the middle of a big noisy, crowded city with lots of lights. Nightlight tends to be afraid of big crowds and too many things going on around. It may sound like a phobia, but the root seems to be sensory overload.
In her crazed state of mind, Nightlight wanted to destroy the city that she hated going to. But she never wanted to cause anyone serious harm. Fortunately, her burst of power came with a lot of power to protect her victims. In addition – her big brother brought in his own shielding powers. When he faced his giant little sister, White Night did not try to fight her. Those who tried to fight her just made her even more angry and afraid. Instead, he floated as a guardian angel – simply trying to contain the damage.
Nightlight can show a sudden burst of power when her emotions run high. The emotions may be positive or negative. The power she really wants is one that brings things under control – rather than spiraling further out of control. White Night can also show sudden bursts of power when his emotions are high – especially when it involves his little sister. In this scene, he also grew in size, and his shielding powers became far greater.
White Night has taught his sister that the world is made for friendship. He has been one of few to really earn her affection. He is always there for her – ready to help her be a friend. Once Nightlight calms down, he and she will help the others rebuild the city. Some people ended up in the hospital, but there were no permanent injuries or fatalities.

I would greatly appreciate that! (It was some clever editing though, wouldn’t you say?)
Oh you wanted a night version? Thats not that hard, I can make an alt for you very easily that would look way better.
Ah, I see
More accurately, they’re not even in the same imagination.
So a different dimension, essentially
My work takes place in a completely different world. Although it fits with the brony culture, it has nothing to do with the MLP universe.

Ah yes, I forgot - Nightlight and White Night are based on Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor to an extent, and have connections to the royal family like the latter do as well.
Her parents have Unicorn Syndrome too, huh?
Makes sense. Autism can be hereditary in some cases.
For example, my father might have a case of Aspergers like I do; the possibility been brought up between us, but it is still as yet undiagnosed.
By the way, I just need to be sure: Is the Starpony Kingdom part of Equestria, or is it different kingdom entirely?
The emergency-fund thing is public insurance. Nearly all the tax money goes into actually funding the essential functions of government. However, the royals own major portions of various major companies.
Nightlight is not related to the Royal Family, but she and her brother have been practically adopted by Princess Skysparkle. White Night met Princess Honeymoon back when he was 3 and she was 10. He befriended her almost immediately. Up to that point, his parents were struggling to make a comfortable living. They had special talents, but they lacked the social skills to get more than low-paying jobs.
It appears that Nightlight’s parents (Mr. and Mrs. Guidelight) have undiagnosed forms of “Unicorn Syndrome”. They were not employed to the level you would expect for their talents. In an article from 2012, here is the following quote:
The Starpony Kingdom mandates universal access to basic necessities. Even so, a comfortable living still means getting good employment. Unfortunately, the royals are not quite aware of how corrupt some areas of government have become. Some localities are so corrupted that there is poverty that cannot legally exist.
Once White Night befriended Honeymoon, he started talking about his parents’ special talents. At the Royal Academy, Honeymoon was building her own business as a class project. She was looking for a business idea and the right friends to bring it to life. From there, Mr. and Mrs. Guidelight found the emotional support they needed to thrive in the workplace. Honeymoon’s project gained far more success than she expected. She soon made the Guidelights into some of her partners. Honeymoon didn’t have much business talent in herself, but she had the charm and friendly spirit to bring together the right people. The Guidelights are now becoming the equivalent of billionaires.
Mr. and Mrs. Guidelight did not have much trouble raising White Night. He socialized very easily, and he loved to please those around him. White Night was so overflowing with affection that he didn’t notice how his parents struggled to show affection to him. When Nightlight came along, his parents didn’t know how to connect with her. And they were afraid to be around her. Consequently, they don’t interact with her much. From then on, White Night and Skysparkle became the main caretakers.

Ah, phew!
Glad she was able to have a spell put on her to be able to control the outbursts. I didn’t know her family is so rich, though!
So she is actually related to the royal family then?

Ok
Bring on the giant donuts before Homer Simpsons clones are after it
She might eat a dessert once she returns to normal size.
Nightlight helps repair and rebuild the city, and she helps care for those she injured. Moreover, the Royal Family has plenty of resources saved for national emergencies. (Skysparkle is the equivalent of a trillionaire.) Afterward, Nightlight agrees to a spell will restrain her power bursts. (White Night had attempted such spells before, but they never seemed to work well without her acceptance.)
A little later, Nightlight takes a trip into the woods for her own self-exploration. Deep in the woods, she meets a race of creatures known as “Firedeer”. These creatures are a parody of the kirins in MLP. I feel a special connection with the kirins because they used to have trouble with meltdowns. Autumn Blaze showed a way they could be who they were without causing harm. They didn’t have to deny themselves; they could be friendlier versions of themselves!
From FIM, I’ve learned that the quality of the plot doesn’t matter so much as the quality of the characters. Its best stories are ones where we can really enjoy the characters – even when the plot structure wasn’t well developed. At this stage, I’ve been developing concept art to be sure I have a proper foundation of characters.
I have a version of the drawing where Nightlight does wear glasses. Unfortunately, the glasses interfered with this composition. It is true that Nightlight can hardly see without her glasses. In fact, she is nearly blind without them. She is so nearsighted that things have to be nearly touching her eyes to get much of an image. Nightlight is terrified to take off her glasses even when she bathes or sleeps. (Perhaps her glasses fell off during the conflict.)
I felt that the zoomed-in and zoomed-out versions made for different enough compositions. By the way, I have now added the “edit” tag to my commissions from Tsitra360 and viwrastupr. I didn’t feel the need to do so at first, since they didn’t seem to have any plans of posting these commissions on their own accounts. Also – they were commissions of things I had envisioned, so that made me one of the artists in the first place.

@Tsitra360
I darkened it to make it look like night under a bright moon.

Hope the consequences weren’t too harsh for Nightlight, although she must have learned her lesson in some way or another.
I also hope she’ll figure out ways to try and manage her meltdowns.
I may have said this before, but I’ll say it again: She’s a good OC.
I find that the truly good OCs are the ones that make you feel a certain connection and sympathy for them, or even a kindred spirit, if you will.
Edit: I also noticed she’s not wearing her glasses.
The poor dear must be especially scared in that scene with her surroundings being such a blur
