Yeah, the first several chapters are actually like that. And then it turns into this Babylon 5-style epic, and you’re wondering how the hell that happened.

Ugh. How did this image go from a -9 to a +11? I thought we were doing so well, but I guess that the FOE defenders all saw this image when looking for crappy FOE fan art.

v I’m most likely wrong, but I’m convinced half of the ‘haters’ here didn’t read the story. It almost burns.

Nah, not enough comedy or trolling to be true Fallout (unless you count the absolutely ludicrous amounts of rape in Horizons to be trolling the reader by making him read poorly disguised clop fantasies with guns instead.)  
Also much more optimism, much less narcissism/nihilism. Pip is like Standard High Fantasy RPG Hero in the completely wrong game, and she breaks the fucking physics and rules of survival to make it work towards her advantage (mostly).  
Basically replaced yer standard post-apoc Pragmatic Cynicism with Wide-Eyed Idealism, even when under heavy fire.  
tl;dr It is a lets play of Fallout with ponies, but as commented/voiced by Mercedes Lackey or Patricia Wrede. With copious amounts of lesbian shipping. Because I mean, how else is a pony story going to get so famous? The mix is more original than the concept.
 
The water chip thing is closer to Antipodes, in that one they actually fail to return in time. It’s kinda funny, that one is written more like a standard adventure story (abandon your home colony for an epic journey because of encounting some magickal macguffin), but winds up far bleaker in its modern era. The world there basically feels like Chrono Trigger post-Lavos with a dash of Dragon Quarter.
 
 
recall that both fics were written before Celestia was shown to be a fallible ball of wussitude however (or even Hearth’s Warming Eve!), so they are vitally more important than they would be now.

That would be the single most violent video game to have ever existed in the history of forever.
 
A cyborg able to destroy a entire battleship vs a almost alicorn who went up against three armies and won vs a immortal ghost possessed by a demon.
