We still don’t know if it was set in the G4 cartoon timeline or yet.
It’s takes place years after g4
Well, it may be possible that the new MLP movie will be a sequel to the 2017 MLP movie from G4. And we’re unsure if the new MLP movie will be set in the same continuity as the MLP G4 Continuity or not. And even the Beast Wars and Beast Machines cartoons are not direct sequels to the original Transformers cartoon from 1984 and not part of the Transformers G1 Cartoon Continuity because the Beats Era had its own continuity with some facets and elements from the G1 Cartoon Continuity and the Marvel Comics Continuity. So it might be possible that is not part of the G4 Continuity since the 2021 MLP movie and the upcoming G5 series expanded the world of Equestria. Even thought the G4 doesn’t have a direct sequel to the G4 cartoon just like the Transformers G1 cartoon because Pony Life is set in an alternate parallel universe created by Discord at the end of the MLP Manga Volume 3. But both shows of Transformers and My Little Pony had a full-length movie based on a cartoon and set before the final two seasons. But we’ll just have to wait and see if the new MLP movie will be set in the same continuity as G4 or not.
So, is Hello Pinkie Pie set during the tv show? The pilot episode was set during season 9, the rest of the episode were set after the tv show but set before the distant future?!
Are sure this is set in the same continuity as G4?! Too bad the previous movie didn’t get a sequel!
Why not after?
Let Luster and her friends work with the Mane 6 to defeat the real Grogar, for example.
It’s not new characters. They’re keeping the Mane 6 for G5! If the new Transformers cartoons are any indication, they’ll keep using the same main characters for future generations.

I know right?
We do not have any word on what Cgi animation they will be using at all, so to jump on the bad CGI bandwagon is kind of jumping the gun. This could seriously rock.
Surely you guys have seen some of the top-tier Blender animations on this site.
They look like moving toys in these animations, but that’s hardly a bad thing. Toy Story had that as its primary aesthetic. Imagine these animations with some fur textures, and whammo.
Edited
That would be cool TBH!
Because of it just changes the whole animation industry but I hope they should know and fix for its theme or story.

It will be very different in the movie. The Pinkie Pie shorts are done by another studio…Cupcake animation, I believe?
Boulder will be doing MLP’s CGI animation.
A better example would be anything from Amazing World of Gumball.
well it was just a a oneoff YouTube short
It’s a huge, huge possibility the CGI in the movie will be a better version of this one. So you’re right!
Right!?
And it is being done by Boulder, who managed to blend CG, 2d, and live action into Gumball, so it should turn out pretty good!
It’s a more likely option too. Anyway, I can’t wait to see how the CGI in the 2021 movie will look like.
My guess is that if the leaks are true, they had a rough idea of what they wanted to do next, and before Rainbow Roadtrip even got a script, they changed their minds and decided to do a special instead of a movie.
Whatever happened though, it is evident that Rainbow Roadtrip was conceived as a special from the start, not a sequel.
Yep. And about Rainbow Roadtrip, maybe the story was changed before the script was written and, before it happened, Hasbro hadn’t planned a story for the special yet (or it was scrapped, since apparently an easter special was supposed to be made). There’s also the possibility that the sequel to the 2017 movie became the 2021 reboot movie… Or it was just scrapped, like everyone in the fandom probably says.
Okay, you may be right on the 2020 to 2021 delay.
But Jim Miller revealed that no one at DHX, including writing staff, had anything to do with Rainbow Roadtrip. So, it was apparently written from the start as a special, which aligns with Hasbro’s CEO’s approach to MLP, which is bi-annual or annual specials.
Now, maybe the original concept of a 2019 movie was changed to instead develop a special, but despite fan rumor, all evidence points to rainbow roadtrip being written as a simple special from the start.
I meant in terms of regular merchandise not the movie
The 2020 movie was postponed to 2021. And the sequel to the 2017 movie very likely became Rainbow Roadtrip.
Actually, official announcements have confirmed the 2020 movie isn’t real. At least, not anymore.
The film coming is in 2021.
