here let me lay it down for you
>Dash makes him question his masculinity
>Rarity doesnt like this and tries to cheer him up by treating him in a way not unlike how she has treated him before
>she goes too far
>she thinks these are genuine compliments because they are what she (and the other ponies)personally love about Spike
>Spike realizes he doesnt know anything about being a real dragon
>this was in a Merriwether episode which tend to have these exaggerated character actions (MMDW, PYHD)
Solved.
You seem to think we’re dogpiling on Rarity’s character, that’s not the case. We’re simply discussing a puzzling action that was thrown in as a plot trigger.
@Impious
He dressed himself like that. It was never suggested that he was forced to wear that, it was implied that the apron belonged to him.
Fact of the matter is, he’s a guy and she lives in a predominantly female society. Vaguely referencing that “he’s older than a baby” doesnt change that he’s younger than her developmentally, a different gender, and a different species. He isnt going ton have the same temperament as male ponies.
Furthermore, her knowing ‘how to deal with people romanitcally interested in her’ doesnt mean she’s had experience with them going through an identity crisis.
The fact that she’s emasculated him once, on accident, is hardly a big deal.
Besides, she’s called him Spikey Wikey before, she referred to him as a ‘little star’ back in S1 and done other “emasculating” things to him beforehand. The difference is now, Dash made him question his masculinity and Rarity responded by doing things that worked before in a situation that didnt call for it.
I explained the character insensitivity. She wanted him to feel better and went with an approach that worked before.
There’s nothing controversial about any of this, so arguing with me over it by asserting some vague displeasure
And as a final point, yea she’s very insensitive towards him. That’s why she initiates physical contact, consoled him after destroying Ponyville and kidnapping her, and wanted to follow him to make sure he is okay.
I guess I just dont understand why there’s such a problem with this.
Honestly, Dash is the one who actually insulted him and you guys are getting on Rarity’s case for misunderstanding what Spike is feeling and what feeling like a wimp is like. She’s a grown female pony, he’s a male baby dragon. If this is as far as misunderstandings go then Id say they are doing to damn fine job.
I could also always go the cheap route and point out that this episode was written by Merriwether, so of course it is going to have forced character traits for the purposes of moving the plot along.
I see it more as Rarity trying to make Spike see what she likes about him after Dash teases him.
It’s almost as if grown women dont relate well to young boys…
well maybe it does take place after Rarity is at least trying to be more affectionate and protective of Spike in this episode…not in the best way mind you but still
