Hmm, I have a theory.

I believe the rise of technology has helped ponies to value Luna’s night more. Back before she became Nightmare Moon and got banished to the moon there was probably nothing much to light up the night. The most likely had only torches and candles back then. Ponies most likely never stayed awake at night to see the stars or anything. The multitude of monsters in Equestria also contributed to this I would think.
