I can see Tirek can’t steal dark magic with his ability since its basically taking in toxic stuff.
Like said dark magic would corrode his insides and/or mess up the magic he had stolen previously and ravage him from the inside out.
Why this didn’t happen with chaos magic is due to well.. its not corruptive/“toxic” as dark magic.
He could get a power boost from dark magic from externally like via Grogar’s bell but he can’t directly intake dark magic via his ability.
It probably works to prevent Tirek from using magic. But not from stealing it, as he does that through his mouth.
I suppose Sombra could block his throat with black crystals, but that would be more akin to suffocate or strangle Tirek.
It would be interesting to know, though, if Sombra could use his black crystals as a shield against Tirek’s magic drain.

I think you got that backwards.
If he can’t use magic to steal that magic then he can’t regain his ability to cast magic.
So it depends on whether Tirek will be affected in the first place which probably depends on his magic absorbed total aka his power level.

You think that spell Sombra cast on Shining Armor’s horn to block his magic would work on Tirek? Embed black crystals on his horns (or maybe around his neck) to keep him from stealing magic?
That, plus, Sombra is more powerful. Tirek has to rely on sucking magic from others to get power, while Sombra can do a whole lot of things with his powers he naturally has as umbrum.
I think the placement is based upon social status, not power levels. Kings command Lords.
