Next in my Dawnverse headcanon is the RariLane family!
No major changes here: Moonstone is just slightly taller because I am aging him up a bit. Below is some information about this paring in the Dawnverse:
Rarity:
With multiple boutiques across Equestria, Rarity quickly gained high social standing with the elite of Canterlot, the unofficial capital of wealth and culture. Rarity’s status only flew higher with her courtship with philanthropist Fancifer “Fancy” Pants. After an unexpected pregnancy, Fancy Pants and Rarity agreed to save their reputations and marry each other in a lavish and beautiful celebration. However, this marriage only looked beautiful on the outside: inside their home, Rarity and Fancy grew apart over shallow feelings and arguments over the pettiest topics. Although the couple tried to stay together for the sake of their young daughter Azure Glitter, the couple ultimately divorced, agreeing to share custody of their little filly. After moving to Ponyville, Rarity watched her daughter leave for Canterlot every other weekend with a broken heart. Although the mare dated frequently, maintained a busy social and work life, and had her daughter whom she loved dearly, Rarity still felt lonely. This changed when Rainbow Dash invited her friends and their children to a Wonderbolts Show. Knowing her daughter loved the Wonderbolts, Rarity agreed to attend the event, ultimately meeting the Wonderbolts back stage, including the bold stallion Thunderlane who asked the mare to dinner. Although taken aback by the stallion’s bold move, Rarity agreed to a dinner, leading to a courtship based on love, then a marriage, then a little colt named Moonstone Voice. As a mother, Rarity always makes time for her children, even canceling important fashion shows to watch one of her son’s performances or go shopping with her daughter. Sometimes balancing everything tires the mare to the point of exhaustion; however, Rarity would do anything for her children, no expense or feelings spared.
Fun Facts:
- Rarity is somewhat petite, and is the smallest among her family.
- Although divorced from Fancy Pants, the two ponies maintain a friendly relationship, and both ponies are civil during Canterlot social events.
- Rarity does not regret her divorce or even previous marriage: the situation helped her better understand herself and have a much happier and fulfilling marriage.
Thunderlane:
Unlike other Wonderbolt stallions, Thunderlane is not really a “mare’s stallion”/womanizer. Despite his bold and boisterous demeanor, Thunderlane is a sensitive and delicate soul, believing in the power of true love. Thunderlane never felt a connection with any other mare before he saw Rarity that one fateful Wonderbolt event. Something clicked in the stallion’s mind, and without warning he asked the white mare out to dinner, a bold move even for the grey stallion. The two ponies shared a romantic dinner in Ponyville, an evening picnic complete with nervous smiles and genuine laughter, an unconventional date for Rarity but a beloved one regardless. From this, Thunderlane continued planning these down- to-earth dates, sometimes asking Azure to join in for “family time”. After a year or so of dating, Thunderlane proposed to Rarity, his nerves giving the stallion away. Once the couple married, it was actually Rarity who insisted they have a child: Thunderlane already felt he had a family with Rarity and Azure, even if the filly was not his own. However, the grey stallion was ecstatically giddy from when Rarity told him of her pregnancy to the day Moonstone was born. As a father, Thunderlane is just as generous and devoted as Rarity: when Moonstone fell ill during one of his Wonderbolt events, Thunderlane left in the middle of an acrobatic rehearsal to be there for his son. Thunderlane also sees Azure as his own daughter, even if she is not biologically his own: Thunderlane enjoys having “daddy-daughter” breakfasts. Thunderlane does not 100% understand his son’s passions; however, the grey stallion attends every performance he can for his son and supports him no matter what.
Fun Facts:
- Thunderlane is the tallest and most muscular/athletic in his little family.
- Thunderlane is a sports stallion among artistic unicorns, and so when a hoofball game is on, Thunderlane watches the game at the local bar with Soarin’ and Big Mac.
- Thunderlane’s ego is astronomical: only Rarity can seem to deal with Thunderlane’s bragging and confident attitude. Despite his ego, Thunderlane can be humble and down-to-earth when needed.
- Thunderlane loves a good “rom-com” and does not mind tearing up in front of his wife.
Azure Glitter:
Azure Glitter is the only daughter of Rarity and Fancier “Fancy” Pants, and is the embodiment of her mother’s generosity. Although growing up affluent, Azure always felt remorse and sympathy for ponies less fortunate. At a young age, Azure was shipped weekly from one parent to the other, and so learned to live with few small but personal objects despite having two homes filled with wealth and everything the mare could ever want in life. Because of her constantly shifting schedule, Azure also learned to cherish what she had, including the few friends she made in her childhood. Exposed to the finest tutors and Canterlot education, Azure learned of her inner magical talent in healing magic, something that both her parents encouraged and bragged about with pride. As she grew up, Azure was the “motherly” child, often healing her friend’s “boo-boos” and having more mature views in life from her living situation. Although she would never admit this, Azure did grow up secretly wishing she could remain in one household and grow up “normal”; however, she never let her unique situation and incredible wealth stop her from being a “normal” mare, often giving her friends her lavish gifts. Whether doing this was because of her altruistic generosity at work or an inner desire for her friends not to forget her, Azure remained incredibly generous well into her adult years. By her marehood, Azure decided to attend Manehatten University to better harness her healing magic and eventually become a nurse so she may give the gift of healing and life to ponies across Equestria.
Fun Facts:
- Azure is physically almost exactly like her mother, down to how her tail curls.
- Azure’s generosity knows no boundaries; however, she does have a few items she could never part with, ranging from a beloved stuffed animal to a simple silver necklace her parents gave her before they divorced. She continues to wear that necklace.
- Azure claims she got her mother and step-father together: while at the Wonderbolt event, Azure ran off to hopefully meet a Wonderbolt, eventually running into Thunderlane who brought her back to Rarity.
- Azure is developing bags under her eyes from multiple all-nighters while at Manehatten University.
- Azure did not develop her mother’s fashion art talents: despite her cultured upbringing, Azure is a disaster when it comes to fashion.
Moonstone Voice:
Moonstone Voice is the first son of Rarity and Thunderlane. Much like his mother, Moonstone’s talents align with the creative arts, particularly the theatre. As a young colt, Moonstone loved showing off to any pony willing to watch him, thriving off the applause of his family and friends. Once he started attending school, Moonstone seemed to absorb himself into the theatrical arts, almost ignoring everything else taught in class. From his talents, Moonstone developed a diva-like and snobbish attitude, sometimes scoffing at other ponies who try to upstage him. Despite his attitude, Moon attracts multiple friends and admirers, much to the unicorn’s delight. Moonstone is also quite generous to those who he deems worthy, mostly his playmates and family, and usually giving through performances. With time, Moonstone will eventually grow more humble as he realizes that his amazing talents are shared by more ponies outside of his “one horse town”. Moonstone uses his theatrical and emotional talents to mask some insecurities, such as his large but easily deflated ego, his ability to fluster incredibly easily, and the deep desire to understand and please his father who is his opposite. However, these insecurities are minuscule, only showing themselves in competition. Not to ever be upstaged, Moonstone will shine beyond anything any pony would expect of the small unicorn.
Fun Facts:
- Moonstone will as petite as his mother and the shortest among his family.
- Moonstone knew of his homosexuality from an early age after meeting an earth colt named Freckle Trick. Everyone who knows Moonstone knows of his attractions, the grey unicorn openly admitting his feelings and feeling no shame. He does not start dating until his teenage years.
- Moonstone feels a silent distance from his father because of their multiple differences: the unicorn feels that he should have been born more of a sporty colt instead of the theatrical unicorn he is.
- Moonstone is very much a diva, often taking things personally and over dramatically.
