That sucks. Though personally I don’t care about this particular project. I knew when especially dealing with “online” things, the enforcement of IP can be a little twisted.  
My concern is of how the other projects would be affected. The definition of Fair Use can be tricky to comprehend.

If you’re so desperate to play fan-made games, just wait until Hasbro’s trademark on the MLP franchise expires. It’ll probably take a few decades, but it’ll surely be in public domain eventually, right?

^Another game was already sued for something like that.
 
Maybe if there is something about U.S. law not allowing it rather than hasbro decision they might get it for a symbolic dollar without any community effort if they in good term with them.  
But still I’m not sure that is possible according to U.S. laws.

Please tell me OP is not part of the fandom, a troll or something, I don’t want to think we now have people that think like this in this fandom too, it’s bad enough there are ones that think this in some of the other fandoms I’m a part of.
