I’m guessing you’re asking me. :3 Yes! It’s an ongoing saga, that pier and the iconic iron catwalk which sits upon it. The thing hadn’t been thoroughly maintained since the mid-1950s, so it took a few million dollars, another million-plus from a fundraiser (just to save the catwalk!), and the Army Corps of Engineers, to essentially tear down and rebuild the pier.

From this live webcam, one can see people walking on the pier, but the catwalk is still conspicuously absent. Not to worry, though:

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) — Upgrades to Grand Haven’s South Pier are being delayed again due to record high water levels in Lake Michigan. MLive reports the final phases of the $2.1 million project were supposed to be complete before the city’s Coast Guard Festival in late July. Grand Haven City Manager Pat McGinnis says the expected completion date is now mid-October.
The catwalk over the pier, which was removed and restored as part of the project, was supposed to be reinstalled later this year but won’t be back until 2019 because of the delay. It’s the second time in two years that high water levels have delayed the project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is resurfacing and raising parts of the pier.

This one’s pretty unique. I like the gloomy, foggy atmosphere here. At the first glance it seemed pretty meh but as I kept looking at it, I sort of immersed myself in the picture and as a result gained much appreciation for it. It goes without saying that you could not possibly ask for a better companion than Chrysalis <3
