Starlight tried so hard, and got so far. But in the end, it didn’t even matter.
Heartbroken rebel punk with edge
Anti-Cutie-Mark faux philosopher cult leader Suicidal time travelling mad girl with a vengeance.
Socially clueless rehab patient with multiple relapses.
Decent but awkward ex-addict who had made friends with equally awkward ponies.
Now she runs counseling services and is Twilight’s third-in-command (after Spike).
WoW! Glimmer!
Duh, yeah, I forgot that.
Guess Glimmer was a big fan of Nightmare Night as a filly.
Uh… Nightmare Moon? The Nightmare Night holiday had been a thing for generations…
Though really given what sort of a sugar bowl Equestrian society seems like I wonder where they’d ever get the idea for Goth.
Not to mention sometimes actors will improvise their lines too. Can’t change that.
@Moonatik
I agree.
Like you never tried that.
I don’t think it would make very good music anyway so being able to play should not be considered a prerequisite for buying it.
You’be obviously never written before.
The only reason stuff like this happens is because its a symptom of bad writing. Characters have personalities that the creator puts in them. The situations they get into are created by the writer/author. Nothing happens by accident.
I believe the video took Legend of Kora as an example, right? I didn’t watch it that much because of reasons but I believe the first support characters for Kora was Bolin and Mako. The writers had planned a romantic development between Kora and Mako, I think but Mako’s personality was too weak before writing the development. Now do this little thought experiment. What if Mako had Asami’s personality from the start? What do you think would happen?
Back in the day, we were taught never to wing it. If you’re writing a long serial story arc, you cannot wing it. You’re forced to retcon things or create strange excuses to cover up plot holes in the narrative if you do. Relationship developments between the characters would be the least of your problems with that kind of practice.
That’s not really how writing works. Even the most thorough planners among writers usually find their work taking a direction they didn’t expect starting out, or evolving and changing as they make it. One may, for instance, start with an idea in mind but find it doesn’t work well in practice, and change it. Or make a mistake and realize they like the mistake better than what they planned out to begin with. Or start out planning for a character to say or do something at a certain point only to realize that, given the characterization and/or character development made for them so far, they wouldn’t say or do that but would say or do a different thing. Drawing’s much the same way, and I know from personal experience. Some people plan more and some people plan less, and things can and do happen by accident in the process of creating a work.
If it doesn’t matter, be subtle or don’t bother, right?
I saw the video. I get what he’s saying but its worded badly. He should’ve just said to keep a character’s sexual orientation ambiguous until it needs to be revealed based on accidental chemistry with another character. I don’t believe in this though because if you’re the writer, you have everything planned out. Nothing will happen in your narrative by accident.
WAKE ME UP INSIDE! I CAN’T WAKE UP!
No no, I mentioned how this isn’t about characters literally being bi. It’s about having sexual orientation for characters, as they’re still being written and developed, function like Schrodinger’s Cat: simultaneously attracted to any gender until the metaphorical box of romantic plotline opens and the story ships them in a way that doesn’t feel forced. We ask, “Who has the best chemistry amomg the cast and how will the setting and circumstances effect them?” Metaphorical asexuality wouldn’t function like that. We’d ask “Will character chemistry even factor into this story? We’ll get back to that if we need to.”
Tempted to link to the video that inspired this.
a punk goth?
Obviously no one cares about the skateboard.
