@Scrounge
Perhaps, but I can’t help, but think if Sunset was in the main Pony show too, people wouldn’t like her as much, or accuse her of being a spotlight-stealer. Much like they do characters like Starlight, Trixie, or even Twilight.
Also, maybe EqG needs some of it’s own characters to help it stand out.
I get where you’re coming from, but bear in mind she’s the only one without a main-series counterpart, so it might not look quite as lopsided when you take that into account.
@Beau Skunky
From the leaks, I can tell you ahead of time there’s an upcoming, multi-part special that doesn’t center around Sunset, and from what’s seen, it’s looking very promising.
@Angrybrony
I dunno, I kinda wish they’d give the rest of the Mane 6/7 some focus. It sometimes feels like Sunset kinda stole the series from them, and I’m getting a li’l burnt out on her frankly.
(And if anyone accuses me of being a “Sunset-hater” again, I’m outta here.)
@Nootnoot
Like @Angrybrony said, from a commercial standpoint, the point would be to keep selling human-like dolls to compete in that market, aside from all the pony dolls and all the other toys Hasbro already sells. Theorically, they could like the G5 version of Equestria Girls, or make a whole new show for it, but why run that risk (aka, betting on whether the completely new characters that have yet to be reviewed by audience will be popular enough to sell dolls) when they’ve already got an already profitable IP that they can keep on milking?
And from a narrative standpoint, well, it just proves that Equestria Girls, while wonky at times, has proven successful enough to stand up on its own even without its original show, which I say means quite the merit on its own, and I’m glad for that. Sunset Shimmer - arguably the main selling point to this franchise - has become my favorite character in all of the franchise, so this both make me feel proud by proxy, and delighted in the knowledge that I’ll keep getting more Sunset Shimmer content to love.
@Alexlayer
But what would be the point of keeping EqG alive if its source dies off? Wouldn’t that be like keeping Mario Kart alive but killing the main series?
@Beau Skunky
There’s also been talk about EqG going on, same as it is (as in, not an EqG reboot, but the one we know) even after the end of FIM. So if that’s true, we may have a lot more EqG coming.
@Scrounge
Seeing how they’re already making plans for a G5 franchise reboot, it’s likely we only have one, or two seasons left, so most likely just two more EqG specials, unless they finally make it a series.
not sure how I felt about Wallflower - on the one hand I could sympathize with her, but on the other… ehh, part of me wishes Sunset gave her a “this is why you fucked up” speech after everything was all said and done just to really hammer the point in

Yes, you want Hasbro to replace Sunset with him as the main character.

the point would be that it’s something hasbro to compete with monster high and that other crap.

i hope it’s true just for the irony of it.
it’d be great to see all the naysayers get butt hurt about it.

At least a few more, I hope.
I’m dropping it right now
