I was wondering when they’d show that get changed. It made sense at first because Equestria went on for like a thousand years without Luna, so it would have been very odd for there to have been an empty throne for all that time. Plus - the current castle they’re in was built /after/ Luna’s banishment, which pretty much means it was made from the ground-up to be Celestia’s throne room.
 
At least they built Luna a big tower of her own upon her return.
