I think they’ve been trying to forget that gamebreaker exists XD
Seconded. I actually really loved that moment in the movie. A epic undertaking like this movie was trying to be (and in part succeeded) should challenge the core of a franchise. That’d be friendship. And this movie did it WELL IMO.
When I wrote that I had no idea what this site was, I just took it as art theft and thought I should give the thief a chance to take it down before going to whatever was a official channel here. I’ve since found out what it’s about and am alright with it. I will argue that my reaction was reasonable when I lacked the context for this site.
next time just report it, instead of bragging about how much you’re gonna punish people for liking your work.
Sir. And thanks!
I like your explanation a lot, sir/ma’am. Tactfully said!
that and it’s kinda hard to have any conflict in your story after you introduced the deux ex machina who can make everything better again with a wave of his/her claw/horn/rainbow laser.
I just consider the movie sort of an AU fanfic, in a world where twilight isn’t OP, and discord’s just here for the dance party at the end.
they still did kind of screw up, making twilight OP even though she couldn’t teleport or transmogrify. but I’m not allowed to show you that scene.
Twilight being skilled in magic isn’t a one-time thing, it’s practically her defining characteristic. XD
That can be reasonably chalked up to issues with exposition. There’s only so much time in the movie, and the writers had to keep in mind that people who don’t habitually watch the show were also going to see it. Drawing too much on show canon would either hopelessly confuse people who aren’t familiar with it if the movie doesn’t take time to explain it or bog down the story with too much exposition if it does.
So for instance, using Rainbow Power (assuming that it wasn’t just a one-time power up) or calling in the changelings or Discord or whoever – or alternatively explaining why those weren’t options – would almost certainly have needlessly hurt the movie’s quality.
The point I’m getting at is, we as obsessive fans can think of a thousand and one ways that previously established canon could have impacted the plot, but the writing staff had to keep in mind that a lot of the audience wouldn’t have known and wouldn’t really have cared about minutiae of show canon.
(On that general note, does Twilight still teleport as often as she did in early seasons? I get the impression that particular trick hasn’t been showing up as often as it used to lately.)

Twi didn’t even ONCE teleport in the entire thing. Teleportation is her go-to trick fer crying out loud. XD
“with this we could transform everypony into something powerful enough to face the storm king!”

Considering that throughout most of the movie everypony forgot they were ponies at all, with various pony abilities, it seemed par for the course. XD
all I could think of was how much pain twilight would be in, if those were actual jellyfish tentacles.
That’s the thing that struck me the most – I can understand Twilight’s motives, if nothing else she was desperate and not thinking things through, but didn’t it occur to her that Queen Novo might have some sort of defense for the most precious and powerful of her people’s treasures?
I wouldn’t say she was unjustified, but it was kinda stupid not to even try the diplomatic solution, and she really should have anticipated some kind of defense system, with the whole jellyfish thing.
Twilight wasn’t thinking rationale
You got the chance to taste desperation Twilight Sparkle. When there’s desperation there are sacrifices. For the sake of your kind’s safety, you must sacrifice your lessons on friendships.
Also, the sun and the moon has been handled by unicorns before. I’m pretty sure they can do so again without Celestia and Luna.
Twilight’s having a lot of emotional scars
I don’t believe it was an OOC moment for her, by the way.
The movie itself had a build-up of emotional context.
