accurate, i don’t know why people get angry over something that is accurate and 100% correct in predicting.

Yes, because telling us she used to be a tinpot dictator suppressing cutie marks and the special talents that they’re linked to is sure to kindle audience sympathy.

And, of course, now it’s “always using magic or X to solve problems”, now that she’s not always using magic as her first problem-solving resource. I’m looking forward to seeing what X is after her next appearance.

She does, actually, because while the exact same thing can be said of Twilight for the first several seasons (screwing up with magic and bad ideas over and over and over again, to say nothing of the others), Starlight has the angle of a difficult reformation (in that she’s struggled with changing her life over the last couple seasons), being a very different kind of person than our initially-asocial bookworm, and a knack for forming relationships with people the rest of pony society doesn’t seem to want anything to do with.

Bad guys and former bad guys generally make for more interesting characters than heroes (whose thoughts and viewpoints rarely surprise us) to start, and watching Starlight’s interactions with others (former villain or not, because I’ve enjoyed watching her play off even relatively normal characters) has been pretty fun and offers slightly different points of view than anything we get out of the Friendship is Magic™ crew by this point. I remember that it was Trixie talking to Starlight that gave us this:

Trixie: Not gonna lie. Hearing you and those random ponies say all those terrible things about me wasn’t easy. But I needed to hear it. Why didn’t you just tell me how you felt?
Starlight Glimmer: I didn’t want to lose you as a friend.
Trixie: Pfft! Come on! It’d take a lot more than that to lose me. Our friendship is stronger than a few angry words.
Starlight Glimmer: And a magical temper tantrum?
Trixie: Listen, I’d take that over the boring pony you were becoming any day. The Starlight I love is passionate, lively, and yeah, sometimes angry. Those are my favorite parts of you. That and the fact that you forgive me every time.

I’ve yet to hear such a take on friendship from any of the primary good guys, and this is supposed to be their bread and butter. So yes, Starlight and her misfits make for far more interesting characters than the apparently-not-going-anywhere-anymore main cast.

well said. I’m looking foward to more of Starlight’s story too. since she’s almost recovered her confidence and her former leadership skill, it’d be interesting to see Starlight becoming a leader of those misfit characters, she has great chemistry with those mistfit characters too, something mane 6 are lacking. although I don’t think their stories are over. there’s lots of interesting stories to tell, it’s just that… writers haven’t touched it yet, I believe.

Because Starlight has so much to tell, right? All she does when the spotlight is on her over and over again is screw up because of either using magic or going with a stupid idea, or attempt to capitalize on the audience’s pity by reminding us of her backstory.

She’s the one that’s already overplayed and has overstayed her welcome. Last season premiere should have just sent her away…

I’ll miss them having relevance to the plot when they stop having relevance to the plot.

Given Trixie’s vocabulary and theatricality, I’d think she’d be the least likely to use conventional swears, actually. She’d probably use a lot of alliteration and interior rhyming for that, I’m guessing.

Why do people always seem to think sunset is the only reason people dislike Starlight? Starlight has her own issues and using sunset as an excuse all the time is weak.

I would hope that if a new series is being considered that it might be a bit more creative then just following mini Twilight. There’s so much more to explore in equestria and it’s history that it would be a shame to waste it on another purple star pony and her slice of life adventures.
