@Ereiam
Again, you basically just said you don’t think it’s relevant because it’s old, and frankly I disagree. I think the moral teachings of Jesus are just as relevant today as they were then, particularly because most people live according to them. The fact that you (I assume) live in the western world of today is thanks to the spread of Christianity, and believe it or not most of your values (it seems you value peace and love particularly) are ultimately Christian values. You may think they’re universal values, but that’s only because Christianity made it so. Just look at the world before Christianity.
And I’m not just being biased for my own religion. I think a lot of ancient ideologies are still relevant today, stoicism being a great example.
Finally, I would be a little more cautious with the word “narrow-minded” if I were you. There’s a difference between figuring out what ideology works for you and sticking with it a being narrow-minded. I mean, are you willing to concede that some things, any things at all, in the bible might be relevant today? If not, one might call you narrow-minded.
Anyway, I don’t really want to continue this anymore. I feel like it could turn unpleasant. At the very least, I hope we’ve both come to a decent understanding of each other.
Why have I been disconnected?
That’s my point: the Old Testament is a repackaging of the Hebraic Bible, including the Torah. Religious law elaborated to establish a form of societal and moral order in a completely different era and paradigm, which no longer has relevance today. Same deal with the New Testament, which was compiled from a mass of scriptures by the religious authorities of a time long-past, picking what suited their sensibilities and enshrining their selection as final on their own word alone, leaving the rest to sink into apocryphal obscurity.
From an intellectual viewpoint, those so-called sacred texts have the same worth as any philosophical or moral treatise put in the context of the era they were written at.
Also, I already mentioned that I doubt the existence of hell or that anybody really belongs there. All I said is that I feel those who preach hatred over love and make others suffer by imposing their self-righteous, narrow-minded views on them would be better suited for that place is all.
>“cribbed from the Torah”
You think the bible copied and stole from the torah? Are you not aware that the torah is part of the bible?
And at any rate, how would you know if your idea of who belongs in hell is better than the bible’s?
The concept of hell predates the Bible, boomer (like most of its outdated moral rules and interdictions it cribbed from the Torah). And even its reality is dubious at best.
Edited
>“if the bible is right about hell existing, it’s probably wrong about who belongs there”
Fucking what? Lol
>believing that the bible is irrelevant just because it’s old
Okay millennial.
No need for that, especially considering that, IMHO, if hell does exist (and that, in itself, is already a big “if”), narrow-minded bigots who justify their hatred with the scriptures written by long-dead people and delude themselves into believing they follow God’s word are more likely to end up there than those whose sin was to be in love.
Great comeback. Congratulations. You’ve successfully put me in my place. I will never rise above this shame and humiliation. Shall I perform seppuku now, or did you want to execute me yourself?
I know, I wish you weren’t either.
I saw it. I just wish it weren’t.
Someone missed the
"satire"
in the tags…The Emperor.
Palpatine
Uhhh…
Palpatine was a powerful emperor. He fried a whole city with his own hands.
Palpatine was defeated, too.
Love always wins.
But I doubt it.

They could start a rebellion and overthrow her.
