A lot of large herbivores (including horses, deer and cattle) do occasionally eat a meaty snack (typically a small bird or rodent) to get some nutrients they couldn’t get from a strictly plant only diet.
She’ll be happy.
Starlight: Bitch, I’m a horse. Do you see all the pockets I don’t have to carry money around with me?
Anon: Well, just like with the restaurant, no money equals no steak.
I wouldn’t say they eat it alot, but yes: horses do eat meat, but only when they can’t find any grass or hay to graze on or have been offered it as a treat/taken a bite of their owner’s meal behind their backs.

Yes, that would be my point. Since, presumably, AJ is not a drugged-up whackjob, and appears to be eating meat or an imitation thereof, the only reasonable conclusion is that ponies are at least part-time meat-eaters.
(The fact that this coincides with real horses to some extent, as I was aware of and as the description alludes to, is convenient, but not essential.)
Horses eat meat, a lot. Its not good for them, but they will, rather readily.
But what kind of drugged-up whackjob makes — or eats — an imitation of some food that their biology and culture are utterly antithetical to?
(Admittedly, this reminds me of Chesteron’s hilarious bit comparing vegetarians’ mock turkeys to former cannibal tribesmen’s hypothetical mock-missionaries arranged out of joints of meat. One might reasonably “regard the proceedings … with something less than approval, and perhaps with something akin to alarm.” But it’s still worse when there should presumably be no historical reason for the practice in the first place.)
That could be imitation meat, though.

Have we ever seen the ponies eat meat in the show?

It also wasn’t made to handle certain foods that the ponies eat in the show just fine. Some of the things they eat on the show would be poisonous to real horses.
IT ISN’T EQUAL, COMMIE.
It’s not healthy for them, though. Their digestive systems aren’t made to handle meat.
Horses can eat meat. But then my little ponies aren’t real horsed
