I guess I’m more familiar with the idea than I thought. I completely forgot about most of those, despite the fact that I have, like, half of them.
Don’t forget the Urza’s lands. Sure, that was later errata’d, but still.
I’m not gonna link all the cards here since I’m pretty sure it’ll set off the site’s spam filter, but:
I’m not saying that a Basic Land Creature can’t be a thing (animating a land does that), but it’s basically a design rule that only Lands would have the Basic supertype.
As to the other point, I’m genuinely curious as to what some of those are. I know the Bogbrew Witch Cycle and the artificer from Fate Reforged that can seek out a Khans artifact and/or a Dragon artifact, but that’s all I’m familiar with.
Supertypes aren’t limited the way subtypes are. You can have a basic creature card; it just doesn’t mean anything under the rules… unless that creature becomes a land. (Suppose this guy becomes a Saproling while Life and Limb is on the battlefield.)
And by my count, there are 34 cards that name-check other cards. It’s gimmicky as hell, but not as rare as you’d think.
“Basic” is a Land-only supertype. There is no such thing as a “Basic” anything else.
That being said, a 3/3 flyer for 3 CMC is pushing it, especially for White. I’d probably put it as 3W.
The card-checker ability is pretty gimmicky, which is why there’s only about five or six (I think?) cards in Magic that do such a thing.
