I dunno, she always came across as a bit dorky and/or nerdy to me, even as a villain
(evil nerds can be pretty scary).
They’re both nerds when it comes to magic research, at least.

I don’t think Starlight was ever a nerd though.
She just got this idea pummeled into her that she has to imitate Twilight to a creepy level.
That fourth sentence saids Rainbow Dash, not Fluttershy (Unless RD suddenly has two personalities now :P)
Twilight Sparkle is shy of direct praise, and so tends to deflect it.
Starlight Glimmer teases her about this in the follow-up response,
by spelling out why Twilight deserves her gratitude (taught Starlight value of friendship).
