Skydiving stuff in general, all the weird details and trivia that comes with it. And hey, your studies are laudable and productive. I’m just some obsessed loser who completely failed when I tried to do the thing for real.

Does devoting your entire professional and a huge portion of your non-professional life to studying one particular kind of physics count as “super nerdy” to you? I’m not gonna be out-nerded!… Unless you’re that train-obsessed kid from the animated Polar Express movie, he wins.

It’s meant to prevent things like “oh, so and so wasn’t wearing a parachute and they fell/got pulled out”.
There’s not that many laws about parachuting. Bare minimum stuff about safety, emergency preparedness, and accountability. Everything else is left to the USPA and similar sporting organizations to write their own rules and self-police.
And I’m nerding out again. I’ll shut up. :/
Huh, strange rule. But now I know! Not that I’ll ever be in an airplane…
And any picture with Derpy in it gets an automatic pass from me anyways, especially if she’s well-drawn as she is here.

Pointless geekery: The FAA says that if any person on the aircraft is wearing a parachute and intends to jump out, every person on the plane must wear a parachute. Derpy is wearing an aviator’s parachute, and if you ever ride along in a jump plane without jumping yourself, you get to wear one too, just in case.
She’s piloting the aircraft everypony else jumps out of. And I don’t blame them one bit.
The question I have is why is a pegasus wearing a parachute?
