Four-point is basically using a fourth light (or maybe more, if needed) to highlight the background and/or eliminate shadows that are cast onto it that may be unwanted.
Regardless, you just have to play around with the light levels and their placement to get the right look. All you can do is practice and experiment!
I used to know a decent set of percentages/numbers for the light levels for each light, but I forgot it now. But, essentially, the key light (on the left) is the brightest/strongest and has the most influence on the scene, the fill light (to the right) is softer and less bright, then the back light is meant to create those subtle (or unsubtle depending on your preference) highlights around the edge of the subject(s). I’d recommend Googling around (if you haven’t already) to see some diagrams and examples.
Just three-point, but I feel like I might be doing it wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of four-point lighting.
