To be fair, you have to remember that not everyone is going to like every theme you draw. It’s has less to do with the quality of art than it has to do with the theme. I’ll provide a few quick examples.  
3 Day top scoring has >>1166928 ranked over >>1166927, even though there are 1 or 2 blatant flaws on the former. The nude version doesn’t apply any droop (gravity on the breasts), and the nipples are located too low. (The second is why I say or, as that could possibly be subjective. I haven’t seen a case where the nipples are low on the breasts like that. Anyone is welcome to cite links/images to [natural] breasts of this type.) But the nude version rates higher, simply because it’s nude, even though it’s arguably inferior to the clothed version. That’s literally it.
 
Meanwhile, on the All time top scoring, we have >>650146 and >>937553 that scored exceptionally high for something that, in my opinion, isn’t really notable. Meanwhile >>785882 (this got 400+ more votes than I last saw it) isn’t rated as high, but it has a lot more quality to it. Not to mention that there are likely many other safe images that look fantastic, but hardly get any recognition.

Well early on it for a disproportionate number of downvotes compared to up for my work. Most of the current downvotes were early on while this has steadily gotten more upvotes since.

Not sure what to tell you. There’s not anything wrong with it. The only thing I can think of is either it’s tagged with meme, or that it’s a trap. Try making a similar image with similar expressions and similar-looking pony (maybe with different colors), except make the pony female this time, and compare vote counts.
