Not quite. Miami’s hosed, but northern and central Florida are on slightly higher ground. Orlando should be safe for a few centuries at least, unless things go full Waterworld sooner than expected.
Florida also does not count as ‘‘The South’’
Give it another thirty or forty years and sea level rise will make it a moot point.
That’s not true! If any place tried that in Florida, it would be transformed into an eldritch location filled with non-euclidian geography and Cronenbergesque abominations not natural to this plane of existence.
So basically Disney World is like to Florida as the CNPP is to The Zone.
I imagine then if a contender for the title were to appear Disney World would go through several blow-outs in order to destroy the invasive franchise and in the process infect Florida with a maddening amount of happiness, mutating the landscape for years to come.
Disney World achieves its state of ‘happiest place on earth’ by absorbing all of the natural happiness from the surrounding territory.
I don’t even recognize Florida as a member of the regular world.
Going into Florida is like walking into a portal that sends you into an alternate dimension.
Florida counts as “and of course its Florida”. The hometown of renowned supervillain, Florida Man.
for the record, Florida also does not count as “The South”
Texas has a different culture because it’s Texas; our history is more different from that of The South than that of The Southwest, because none of the Southron states were ever border states between the US and Other, and sure as hell none of them were ever independent republics.
I’m always going to go with the actual map and treating the cultural map as wrong
Well, I guess it’s your business if you feel like getting it wrong on purpose, but “geography” and “culture” are still two different things, just like “the south” and “The South” are two different things.
You’re still, to me, just saying ‘Not all of the South fits the Southern stereotype’
If the cultural map is that different from the actual one, I’m always going to go with the actual map and treating the cultural map as wrong; The southern culture is the culture of the south, so if it starts creeping north, or leaving out large portions of the southern states, then you’ve made a mistake when it comes to defining ‘Southern Culture’
Texas is, to my understanding, warm and heavily reliant on the general ‘farming’ business (though more ranching than agriculture), so it’s not that different from the rest of the South; It’s not like it’s New Jersey, where the terrain and natural resources are very different, leading to a different culture making sense.
If Texas has a different culture, it is likely because of something specific, and not because it’s not ‘Southern’ in terms of the land itself.
from the map
Dude, from the map, Texas rivals Florida for the most southern part of the country, not counting potentially the islands and such, and it’s smack dab in the middle.
It’s in the south of the USA!
If Texas does not share the traits with the rest of the South, well, gee, maybe not all the stereotypes are true then, eh?
But it’s in the south!
I think this is a new start :)
really
stereotypical ’southern drawl’
Southern and Texan sound about as much alike as East End Cockney and Highland Scottish.
I also point and laugh any time a movie supposedly set in Texas acts like the whole state is a painted desert with saguaro in the background, if that helps.
Edited
I’m… sorry you don’t understand the difference between geographic and sociopolitical regions? There is a reason there are different kinds of maps, and depending on why they’re drawn and what differences and/or similarities are being emphasized, Texas is grouped variously as “west”, “southwest”, “central”, “south central”, “south”, and “Texas”; if the map you’re drawing is for NFL divisions, Dallas is in the NFC East. Culturally, “The South” is inarguably a different entity from Texas and always has been, and only someone lacking even the most basic understanding of American History would think otherwise. We are our own region.
@TheDeinonychus
Texas is a big state
Literally bigger than France, economically bigger than Spain, and the only two landforms we’re missing are Tundra and Taiga. We’re so big in people’s minds that Alaska is usually described in terms of how many Texases it is, and things that are about twice the size of Texas are almost always described as “twice the size of Texas” rather than “the size of Alaska”.
Their numbers are small, but their woods are thick.
Now, to be fair, Texas is a big state. Western portions of the state have little resemblance to the more eastern areas in both terrain, climate, and culture. It’s not unreasonable that if he’s from the western part of the state he might not know that Texas is still considered a ‘southern’ state.
Well I never, good sir
This is the griffon wife. I think the racist callout griffon is a different character. They have shorter eyelashes and no pearls.
@Itsthinking
Had to look at the panel again after reading that.
