gifs aren’t very smooth and the artifacts and imperfections become too evident at these resolutions. i’d say anything between 400x and 700x look great for mlp gifs, look at theanonshy’s stuff  
webm’s are better suited for these resolutions, but derpibooru still don’t support them sadly

But why? I could understand to save hard drive space, smaller file size, but by itself a smaller image usually isn’t any better, unless it’s larger than your screen and needs to be shrunk. And even then, I think on db clicking it once automatically does that :q

Blaspheme. This is why you have at least a terabyte hard drive XD
 
Plus, of all the gifs I’ve uploaded - this one is only a few frames. If any of them needed to have their quality or framerate cut back, it’d be one of the other ones.
 
And the biggest gifs I’ve seen on this site are around 40 MB, so this one is pretty small as far as big gifs go :q
