Actually, in Germany (and German class if you’ve ever had it), there’s a drink mix where you mix cola and orange/lemon juice/soda. It’s actually pretty good. You’ve also got other citrus drinks (Sprite, 7up, etc.) that also taste pretty good with lemon juice added.

While each ingredient on its own is something they eat. They were all combined into a single item. Imagine drinking a soda that’s also been mixed with lemon joice. And soggy chips. And regular baking items. I’d think the taste of the combination would sicken anyone.
 
Of course, being filled with worms as well doesn’t help. Especially since it seemed that the worms didn’t die from the cooking. So they likely either had live worms in their gut, or bit one in half, saw it’s wiggling part still in the muffin, and were immediately sickened~

yes, the ingredients to baked bads were soda that ponies drink, potato chips that ponies eat, lemon juice that ponies eat, and earthworms. plus whatever pinkie threw in there.
 
I’d say cola has poisonous cocaine in it, or poisonous caffeine, but they drink the stuff. potatoes are poisonous deadly nightshade relatives, but ponies eat chips so nix that! if it was a combination, ponies would never think to eat chips and drink soda. earthworms (and comedic license) are the only thing that could’ve done it.

If that was a shipment of peanut butter those last three panels would be empty and all you’d hear is gorging noises.

I would say that humans and horses have different levels of conditioning.  
It would be like taking someone who has lived their whole life in a sterile and clean environment eating nothing but processed food…  
But then dropping them on the streets asking them to survive like a homeless person would.

The difference for horses comes down to eating the right or the wrong food off of the ground.  
How many 1st world humans in that typical middle class bracket would eat food off the ground?  
Then again most of the friends that I know consider it a crime to let food go to waste, and we often clean up food that has fallen down…

horse stomachs are very fragile. giving them the wrong foods can make them sick and they are prone to colic which could kill them.
