I picture the apple family in this world to be a police one, with granny smith recently retiring as Commissioner, ABs father dying in the line of duty, Big Mac running security at Arkham Stables, her mother dying at child birth and Applejack worked 24/7after taking over for the eldest matriarch. Coming from such a long line of ponies who have given everything for this city, Apple Bloom grew up with very much the same desire to clean up the city, both for its citizens sake, and that of her overworked siblings. She became enamored with Batmare and Robinloos methods and soon followed suit in secret to all but them.
 
She was a bit more capable than Robinloo at the start of her vigilante career, but even after suffering through what Joker would later do to her, shes just as useful as intel support, thanks to years of book learning that Applejack pressured her to do.
