I was actually surprised to see a Powerpuff Girls (original series) & Gravity Falls reference Zelda/Navi.
Taking the newer “Crusaders of the Lost Mark” episode into account, I assume it’s partially Diamond’s own choice, and her snobby Mother’s bad influence, as well.
Kinda interesting to think Tiara has one nice parent, and one not-so-nice parent. Sadly, there’s some truth in that iRL.
I don’t know about a saint, but the few interactions I have seen between him and DT remind me of a few of the parents of a few extremely spoiled rich girls I have known. They did try to impart good values on the girls, but didn’t take the time to balance positive and negative reinforcement in an effective way. Mr. Rich seemed to genuinely dislike Diamond’s attitude, but his scolding had no lasting impression, even though she seemed to really respect him. In my experience, this usually occurs because a girl feels stifled by their controlling environment, and lashes out at people. The manner in which Diamond lashed out is one of my most hated. Since he mother was never mentioned, this felt less like a parental effect, and more like a personal choice on her part.
It’s even in the right order!
Frankly, I never understood the “Filthy Rich is another typical evil greedy rich character” canon. (Plus, with all the “snobby” upper-class characters in the show, it’s nice to see one or two that aren’t “evil.” It kinda stereotypes otherwise.)
I prefer the canon that he’s a genuinely nice guy, (he was shown to be friends with Granny Smith & the Apple family, and he seemed nice in “Family Appreciation Day.”) but unintentionally neglects Tiara, because he’s to busy working to spend time with her most of the time. (There’s also some fans who speculate that he & her Mom are divorced, which also contributes to Tiara lashing out, and hiding her feelings.)
Also, if you look at “Family Appreciation Day” Tiara genuinely adored her father, and was the only student not being bored to sleep by him. (Probably one of the first rare “cute Tiara” moments in the show.) He probably spoils her a bit when he is around her, and is likely much nicer to her then her Mother. She seems to fear her mother somewhat, but it’s likely most of her bad influence comes from her Mother.
I never understood the “Filthy Rich is a saint” headcanon. I’ve known enough “Diamond Tiaras” to know that nine out of ten times bad behavior is the result of bad parenting or a lack of parental oversight.
Thank you! :)
